SINGING, SONGWRITING

and collaborative music making

for schools, teams, and communities

Jes Raymond is a Musical Teaching Artist whose practice includes songwriting, performance, directing, and writing.

Jes is proud to be included on the Vermont Art’s Council’s Juried Teaching Artist Roster. Over 19 years, she's built expertise in arts integration and community building across school settings (from early childhood through college), community and work settings, and has led workshops at music festivals nationwide.

Jes moves with a musical compass fixed on the compounding social benefits of rising musicianship and creative clarity. She turns a classroom into a communal studio where students learn that songs are a human thing, and they are the ones who make them. Through her own performing and songwriting artistry, she builds the playful, curious, brave, and empowering conditions that allow artmaking to happen.

Jes is both a co-creator and a midwife for the collaborative process. She names all participants as artists and makes sure they can see themselves in a final piece they're proud of, while letting the music and the making be the actual teacher.

  • "Just as children are always opening our eyes to the natural wonder and playfulness of the world, Jes has a way of reminding teachers to join in these musical experiences with the same joy and carefree heart. During Professional Development Days with Treehouse educators, Jes has created opportunities for teachers to find the playfulness in their own voice, to feel inspired, to trust the process, and to find joy in the shared musical experience."

—EMILY HARRIS Early Childhood Educator/Director of Curriculum and Community Development

  • "Jes creates transformative experiences for our team – she pushes staff to test their own limitations and reach beyond them, for the benefit of our students. We often listen to our audio sessions with her, again and again, feeling the deep connection that is fostered when we sing together as a team. Jes creates moments of growth through music, not just specifically as teachers, but as people."
