A CALENDAR FOR CONNECTION

For a number of years, I sent out a postcard-sized print monthly. That affordable art project has evolved into a yearly postcard calendar!

The artwork becomes a postcard when the month is over, so it is both a postcard collection and a monthly calendar.

We make it a practice to snip it off and write someone we care about in the real world!

Hooray for real-world connection! Hooray for deep, slow communication!

Every week for my “A Wilder Wonder” newsletter, I reflect on what I’m exploring in my life by writing and drawing about it. The artwork for this calendar comes from that practice. This year, I found themes of

magic, music, bravery, and endurance

The images for this year’s series are cut paper collages made from my relief prints. Screens are just too pervasive. Last year I made the images digitally, but this year I have needed the natural world fiercely , and I had to create something off the screen.

I want you to feel my hands and my heart in this work.

Creating these images has been a joy. I’ve loved watching something new emerge from something old. I‘ve loved the childlike trance I enter when I play with scissors and a glue stick. They have enchanted me, and I hope they will enchant your new year and strengthen all the ways we are all bound to each other..
